House Challenges

Week 3 and 4 House challenges!

1)Master a trick shot 2) Create a House Mascot

All entries to be emailed to your house emails before 11 am Thursday the 7th May

What is a trick shot?
Trick shots are where you successfully complete a sports challenge in a unique way. For
example, a basketball shot behind your back or over your house or something else unique that
makes it look cooler than normal. They are also a fun way to show off your cool techniques.
You can spend hours trying to learn one.

What is a mascot?
Mascots are basically a dressed-up person/animal/toy/object/sculpture/image that is supposed
to bring good luck to your house. It could be used at our house events or brought to school
each Wednesday! For example, Hillary’s one would be green and it might have a mountain or
something on it as well because that is what Hillary is known for. A mascot should look really
obvious which house it represents so that when someone sees it they know which
house it is from. Some mascots you may know are Ronald McDonald for McDonald’s
or Mickey Mouse who represents Disney.

What people will be doing for this challenge: (mascot challenge)

Some ideas on how they could make or design a mascot for their house. They could draw a
design, sew, craft a mini one, create it out of lego or do whatever they like to design/make a
mascot for their house group.

HILLARY:
The history of Hillary:
Sir Edmund Hillary was born on the 20th of July, 1919, in Auckland. He was a New Zealand mountaineer, explorer and philanthropist. On the 29th of May, in 1953, Hillary was about to make history. He and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, became the first ever climbers confirmed to reach the summit of MT Everest. After climbing the tallest mountain in the world, Hillary decided to start making a difference. He did this by leading the construction of many schools and hospitals in the area. He also assisted the Sherpa people of Nepal through the Himalayan Trust, which he started up in 1960. He led the trust until he sadly died of a heart attack, on the 11th of January, 2008. Sir Edmund Hillary is remembered for his humility and generosity. He is on the New Zealand $5 note. Sir Edmund described himself as “a humble beekeeper”.
